The Humber area will benefit from the Euro in terms of jobs and prosperity. That was the view of 50 or so people who gathered on Friday evening to set up a local branch of the all-party European Movement.
The meeting held in the University of Hull's Council Chamber heard from representatives of all three main political parties, academics and business people who said that economically and politically the Euro would be good news for Britain and the region.
Local Euro MP, Diana Wallis, who chaired the meeting said, "The importance of the Humber ports to the UK's trade with the rest of Europe should not be undermined by resistance to change. Thousands of jobs are at risk unless we join the Euro."
At the meeting Professor Juliet Lodge was elected the branch's first Chair.
