Local Euro MP, Diana Wallis, was this morning elected leader of the 11-strong Liberal Democrat group in the European Parliament.
Speaking from Strasbourg after the vote, Diana Wallis said, "I am delighted to have won the support of my colleagues here in the European Parliament.
"The Liberal Democrats play a vital role in the European Parliament where no one party has overall control. We will continue to use our key votes in supporting sensible policies in the interests of British people in Europe.
"Holding the balance between the two larger groups, the Lib Dems have consistently made the difference over the first two and a half years of this parliamentary term."
Diana is the first female ever to lead any elected parliamentary group for the Liberal Democrats.
"This is a good step forward for women in the Liberal Democrat party. We need more women getting involved in politics at every level - whether parish council, or European Parliament."
