Yorkshire and the Humber Euro MP, Diana Wallis, has been elected President of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI).
Diana Wallis MEP, Leader of the UK Liberal Democrats in the European Parliament, who took over the post from Sir Rowland Whitehead Bt., acknowledged that it was a privilege to be elected to President and is excited by the responsibilities and duties of the role.
She went on to say, "as a politician and former solicitor - specialising in European cross-border litigation - I experience everyday the importance of good translation and interpretation within the European Parliament and institutions. I see the role of President as that of an advocate for the Institute in the wider world. The services that ITI members provide will be at the forefront of much public discussion over the next few years."
Diana Wallis MEP has been active in promoting the benefits of language teaching in the region which believes is key to the economic success of Yorkshire and the Humber and hopes that her new role will give her the opportunity to pursue this.
