Yorkshire and the Humber Lib Dem MEP Diana Wallis recently met up with her fellow European election candidates at the party's regional conference. At the conference in Wakefield they discussed the value of the European Parliament to people across the region and the effect the Parliament has on peoples' lives.
Diana commented:
'The Liberal Democrats have always supported Britain playing an active and leading role in the process of greater European co-operation and integration. Our continuing membership of the EU enhances Britain's role in the world and allows us to exercise real influence over many international problems, from the environment to the threat of global terrorism'.
Julia Gash, who is second on the party's candidate list for June said:
'Our party will be fighting hard in the coming months to get across to people in Yorkshire and the Humber just how important the European Parliament is to our everyday lives. We have a strong team in Yorkshire and the Humber and, hopefully, we can pull off a great result next year'.
The elections to the European Parliament are due to be held on 10th June 2004.
