On the day when the Kyoto Protocol, which aims to slow global warming, comes into force, local Euro MP Diana Wallis has warned that without America's inclusion global warming still remains a potential catastrophe.
Diana Wallis MEP, an environmental campaigner, is going to Washington with a group of parliamentarians from the Arctic countries in two weeks time and will lobby the American administration.
She said today:
"Global warming is a potential catastrophe of quite unparalleled scale for the entire planet. The preoccupation of the US with its own selfish short term interests is a huge folly in my opinion. It might not be popular to say this in Washington but I would reinforce the opinion of the Government's Chief Scientist, Sir David King, and say that the war on climate change is a big as the war on terrorism."
