Local Euro MP, Diana Wallis, will make a speech in the European Parliament, today, Monday 7th March in support of Endometriosis Awareness Week.
Endometriosis Awareness Week, which runs from 7-13 March is to help raise awareness of endometriosis and the issues associated with the disease. It is linked to International Women's Day (8th March) in which most European countries will participate.
Liberal Democrat Diana Wallis MEP, a former sufferer of the disease herself and a campaigner for the National Endometriosis Society, said in advance of her intervention in the European Parliament, "one the aims of the week is to create a greater awareness and understanding of endometriosis amongst the medical profession, education sector, employers, politicians and society in general."
"I hope that as a result of the week there will be a greater push internationally for improved support from governments and for the development of best practice in the care and support of those whose lives have been affected by endometriosis."
"Many women in this region have had their lives affected by endometriosis and this week is an opportunity for them to play an active part in helping making a difference."
