Euro MP Diana Wallis has expressed her disappointment at the US Senate's vote yesterday to allow a plan that opens up a remote wildlife refuge in the northern state of Alaska to oil drilling.
Senators voted 51-49 against an amendment which would have struck the measure from the federal budget.
Environmental campaigner Diana Wallis MEP who represents the European Parliament on the Arctic Council said
'It is disappointing that this decision has been taken, although there is still a long way to go before any development can start. I was in Washington just a couple of weeks ago and I got the feeling that Americans, who have not seemed to really appreciated the impact of global warming, are beginning to understand the real threat this poses to them too."
