A visit by the Yorkshire Lib Dem MEP, Diana Wallis, to Colne Valley had a green emphasis. Diana came to support Elisabeth Wilson, Parliamentary candidate for Colne Valley Liberal Democrats. Elisabeth and Diana visited the Green Building Store in Meltham, and were told about their safe sustainable building products. These include windows with high thermal efficiency, natural paints, and water saving low flush toilets.
Diana and Elisabeth next went on to view the site of the planned Hey Doorstep Green near Hey Crescent in Meltham, which will have recreation, wildlife and allotment areas. They were joined by Cllr David Woodhead, the chair of Meltham Environmental Ltd., and local Cllr John Bakanoba.
In 2004 Diana was judged on her voting record to be the greenest Yorkshire MEP, according to Friends of the Earth and the WWF.
Diana said: "The visit proved to me how right we are in our manifesto to call for the strengthening of tax incentives to use smaller and less polluting vehicles and create more energy efficient homes. Emphasis on the environment would boost jobs across the region."
