Diana Wallis MEP has said how disgraceful it is that the bias of the voting system has left the public cheated in Yorkshire and the Humber after last week's General Election.
In a letter to the 'Yorkshire Post' Diana wrote:
'How can we call our country a democracy? Looking at the results in Yorkshire from last Thursday's General Election I see it took just 21,000 votes to elect a Labour MP, 71,000 to elect a Conservative MP and over 150,000 to elect a Lib Dem MP. This is a disgrace and no wonder many people in this region feel cheated by the result. I don't want any more lectures from UK politicians or others talking about the so-called 'democratic deficit' in Brussels until we have the courage to put our own house in order!'
