Government plans to help tackle climate change by capturing carbon dioxide emissions from power stations and storing it under the sea, have been given a welcome by the region's Lib Dem Euro MP.
Diana Wallis who last week spoke at a conference in Norway on the issue of carbon dioxide capture said:
"Carbon dioxide capture and storage is to be welcomed and Yorkshire can play a key part in this process as we expect a pipe line to extend from the Humber estuary into the North Sea."
"However it cannot fight climate change on its own. It must be part of a wider strategy to help reduce emissions through renewable energy and energy efficiency measures."
The Government yesterday announced a £40 million funding package to develop a carbon capture plan which could be up and running within a decade.
