Commenting on the Channel 4 programme which dubbed Hull as the worst place to live in Britain, local Euro MP, Diana Wallis, said that education was the key in turning things around.
Liberal Democrat Diana Wallis said:
"It is no coincidence that all the best places to live as judged in the Channel 4 programme had excellent education marks, whereas Hull as we know scores poorly in this area. There has to be a concerted effort to turn Hull's education around and I would say it has to be at the expense of just about every thing else. From this living standards would improve as would health and it would also bring a halt to the drift of people away from the city."
Diana Wallis MEP, who until recently had an office in the building in the city's Land of Green Ginger featured in the programme, said:
"Hull is actually a pretty decent place to live and work. The trouble with programmes like this is that they reinforce perceptions which on top of things like the abuse at the KC stadium on Saturday, are very difficult to overcome. But the solution at least lies in the city's own hands."
