Local Liberal Democrat Euro MP, Diana Wallis, has welcomed the announcemnet yesterday of the ban on the import on exotic birds into the European Union.
The European Union has banned imports of captive live birds - but not poultry - from other countries in an effort to curb the spread of bird flu.
Diana Wallis MEP for Yorkshire & the Humber said in response to the announcement:
"This ban makes a lot of sense. Given that in the last three months alone 232,000 wild birds were imported to the EU to be sold at pet stores and other outlets, this ban represents a sensible attempt to contain the spread of bird flu."
