Diana Wallis MEP spoke to a Conference of the Swiss Cantons today in Interlaken, Switzerland. She spoke as part of the debate entitled: 'European politics: State of play and perspectives for the future', sharing a platform with the Swiss Foreign Minister, Madame Micheline Calmy-Rey.
Diana Wallis, who is President of the European Parliament's Delegation to Switzerland, said:
"After the two successfull referendums of 2005 which drew Switzerland a little closer to the EU, there is now an opportunity for a period of reflection. The report that the Swiss government has instigated to consider future Swiss-EU relations is the appropriate time to take stock and consider the options for the next few years."
