Mobile phone users could pay less for making calls from abroad to their country of origin, under proposals put forward by the European Commission, warmly welcomed by local Euro MP Diana Wallis.
Speaking after the publication of European Commission plans Lib Dem MEP, Diana Wallis, said:
"The ludicrous cost of receiving or calling from a mobile phone abroad has been left to burn a hole in consumers' pockets for far too long.
"This regulation will ensure that operators cannot charge an international roaming charge that is higher than that imposed nationally. It is a myth that the cost of processing this is more, and it is outrageous that mobile operators have got away with this for so long.
"In Europe we want our businesses to be mobile and competitive. Removing the high price of roaming calls will remove and obstacle for them and for holiday makers too."
