In a letter to the Daily Telegraph local Liberal Democrat Euro MP, Diana Wallis has said that Tory leader, David Cameron, should ignore critics of his Svalbard trip.
Diana Wallis MEP says in the letter:
David Cameron should ignore those in his Shadow Cabinet who criticise his visit to Svalbard as 'barmy' and 'a gimmick'. I was there myself a few weeks ago and I would encourage all politicians to see at first hand the impact of climate change on the Arctic environment. The point is that it is not just about the impact of climate change on that particularly fragile and vulnerable area but about the wider implications of the melting of polar ice on the Gulf Stream and on the health of our oceans. As somebody said when I was there, the Arctic acts like the planet's canary in a coal mine. Make no mistake it is shrieking for attention from whoever will listen.
