Local Euro MP's delight at news from Pakistan

Commenting on the news that Mirza Tahir Hussain has been released from a Pakistani prison after serving 18 years, local Liberal Democrat Euro MP Diana Wallis said:

"I am delighted that Mirza Tahir Hussain will soon be home. It is a vindication for all those who have campaigned for his release.

His brother Amjad Hussain must take infinite credit for the campaign he ran to get his brother's death sentance commuted. Almost daily he cajoled us in the European Parliament not to forget his brothers plight, encouraging us to keep the campaign going.

He put together a wonderful coalition of campaigners from Prince Charles through the Foreign Office, the European Parliament, his local MP and of course the national and regional media. It is fantastic that his efforts have borne fruit."
