Local Euro MP Diana Wallis has welcomed the overwhelming backing of key Kashmir report in European Parliament

Local Euro MP Diana Wallis has welcomed the overwhelming backing of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee for the important report by Lib Dem MEP Emma Nicholson on Kashmir.
The Committee backed the final version of the Nicholson Report, following amendments, by 60 votes to 1.
Diana Wallis Liberal Democrat MEP for Yorkshire & the Humber, who has met Kashmiris from across the Yorkshire region in the run-up to today's vote, said after the vote:
"This is an impartial and balanced report on the sad situation in Kashmir. It balances the need for more democracy in Pakistan with promotion of the rights of the Kashmiri people.
"The key concern is for the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people to be respected and for the EU to increase its efforts to improve the social and economic development of the region. MEPs want the EU, above all, to back the peace process."
The report will be voted on by the whole of the European Parliament in May.
