Diana backs calls for immediate release of BBC journalist

Liberal Democrat MEP Diana Wallis has backed a European Parliament resolution calling for the immediate release of BBC journalist Alan Johnston.
Diana Wallis MEP, a Vice-President of the European Parliament, said:
"I am at a loss to understand what the kidnappers expect to achieve by seizing Alan Johnston. This does nothing for the Palestinian cause as most Palestinians themselves agree,
"It is important that as many voices as possible, right across the world, add to the condemnation of this kidnapping and show that Alan Johnston has the unequivocal support of the European Parliament. Multi-lateral, world-wide pressure can only help Alan Johnston's cause."
