Local Euro MP welcomes news that UK will bid for EU solidarity fund to assist flood hit areas

Local Lib Dem Euro MP, Diana Wallis, who has been pressing the UK government to apply for funds from the EU to assist flood hit areas in Yorkshire & the Humber, has welcomed news that a bid from Whitehall has gone to Brussels today Monday.
Diana Wallis, a Vice President of the European Parliament, has been pressing the UK government since late June to make sure that a bid would go in. She has written personally to PM Gordon Brown and has learnt today that an application will go to Brussels today Monday, 20th August.
She said:
"This is good news and if successful should mean several million of pounds for the UK including this region."
