Local Euro MP, Diana Wallis, has taken up complaints about KC's broadband service in the area.
"I have had a number of complaints from people in the Hull area about the provision of broadband service by KC. The problem is that despite the EU's policy to break-up telecommunications for competition KC managed to retain a sole provider status and effectively a monopoly for broadband provision. Whilst we are all fond of Hull's distinctive cream telephone boxes, times have moved on and it is clear to me that local customers feel that they are not getting a good deal from our sole provider and they want some real choice and competition.
"I have written to the telecomms regulator, OFCOM, in the past who did not see the level of complaint as particularly 'out of the ordinary'. Of course the difference here is that consumers in Hull and the surrounding area have nowhere else to go and this a complaint often expressed to me. So subsequently I have written to the EU Commissioner for Competition, Mrs Nellie Kroes, as it is EU legislation that underlies telecoms provision."
