Speaking alongside EU Commissioner Barrot and French Justice Minister, Mrs Racida Dati, at a conference on education of national judges in Bordeaux today, Diana Wallis said that the three EU institutions were pushing in the same direction in responding to her report on the role of the National Judge in the European Judicial system. Her own initiative report, resoundingly passed by the European Parliament at its July meeting in Strasbourg, surveyed the views held by national judges on the EU's legal system.
Diana Wallis reiterated on what she felt were the three salient points of her report: support for judges and lawyers to take up foreign language training; greater access to information; greater funding to allow for exchange programmes
Diana said:
"I was pleased to see that the points I raise in my report have gained wider approval. It is clear that the three EU institutions are pulling in the same direction on this issue."
