Diana has been nominated for 'MEP of the year' award by the prestigious Parliament magazine.
Diana was first elected to the European Parliament to represent Yorkshire & the Humber in 1999 and has been a Vice President of the European Parliament for the past three years. She has been nominated 'MEP of the year' in the category 'Consumer Affairs & Internal Market' along with two other MEPs. She is the only Yorkshire & the Humber Euro MP to be nominated in any of the 13 categories.
Nominations for each of the categories are submitted by European trade and professional associations and interest groups working in sector-specific areas. These organizations nominate the MEPs they feel have done exceptionally good work in their policy area.
Speaking in Brussels, Diana said:
"I am delighted to be nominated for this award. It is an endorsement of many years of work championing better laws for consumers and small businesses not just in this region but right across Europe, especially in the area of combating cross border scams and simplified contract law."
Voting started yesterday 30th August and remains open until 10th September. Only MEPs can vote. Results will be published at the award evening on 29th September.
Notes:
The Parliament Magazine launched these awards in 2005 to recognise the hard work of MEPs. They say: "There is very little out there that says 'thank you' to MEPs. Too often the work of MEPs goes unnoticed and unrecognised. We hope that recognising the achievements of a few will translate into a wider appreciation of the contribution of MEPs as a whole."
