Zulfiqar Ali
Cllr Zulfiqar Ali has been a Liberal/Liberal Democrat member since 1984. He was first elected to Rochdale Borough Council in 1998. He is married and has two children.
"Yorkshire and the Humber is ranked amongst one of the poorest economic areas in the EU," comments Cllr Ali. "If elected, I would do everything possible to try and reverse that situation."
"I have great experience, helping to bridge cultural differences within the area that I have represented on the council," he added. "There is currently very little understanding of the EU amongst the ethnic minority communities and that is something that I would like to see change. I am a strong supporter of EU membership and welcome the enlargement to 25 countries that is planned for May 2004."
