Diana Wallis, Lib Dem Euro-MP for Yorkshire and the Humber, has welcomed an innovative new website from the Liberal Democrat Youth and Students (LDYS).

The campaign to scrap university tuition fees took off again with the launch of www.ScrapTuitionFees.com last weekend. The site allows people to sign an online petition calling for tuition fees to be scrapped across the UK, as they have been in Scotland where the Liberal Democrats are in government.

Diana Wallis, visiting the LDYS National Conference in Hull on Saturday, helped launch the site. She said:

"The site is already generating a lot of interest, with another person signing the online petition every couple of minutes.

"University education is crucial to the economic development of the UK in Europe, and if young people are being put off by the prospect of paying tuition fees, it is up to the Government to do something about it.

"We hope that students and young people everywhere will sign the petition and pass on news of the site via email to their friends."
